How to submit an open records request:
-
Please know the specific record that you would need.
-
It is preferred that you request the record in writing, but you can simply state your request. To avoid any dispute or misunderstanding of the record and the time it was requested, you can fill out this
this simple form to draft an open records request.
-
Most records requests can be completed in a timely manner, but don't forget to ask for records in advance. The records custodian has up to three business days to either make the record available or provide a written explanation as to why the specific record is an exception to the Open Records Law.
-
Also, the law allows for the copying of documents to be up to 25 cents per page. If the retrieval of the record requires significant administrative costs, you could be billed an hourly rate that would not exceed the salary of the lowest paid, full-time employee who, in the discretion of the custodian of the records, has the necessary skill and training to perform the request.
