GREENE COUNTY/LAKE OCONEE – MAKE LIFE AN ADVENTURE
Lake Oconee, midway between the college towns of Athens and Milledgeville, enjoys a relaxed and recreational environment. Combining water sports and outdoor exercise, it is a place to recharge the senses while developing a strong social network. Exploring hidden gems such as Oconee Brewing Company (Photo Right) in downtown Greensboro, hiking in the Oconee National Forest at Rock Eagle Nature Center and mountain biking the trails at the Rock Hawk Effigy and Trails (Photo Below) near Wallace Dam are just a sampling of what is found in this area.
Ideally located within easy driving distance to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport that serves as the gateway to the world, travel near and far is accessible with just over a one-hour commute, just enough time to enjoy a latte.
Yearly Food & Wine and Rhythm & Brews festivals bring entertainment experiences literally to your backyard. Combined with the culinary offerings and concert series at The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee there is never a lack of things to do.
If theater and drama are a passion, two active local community repertoire companies regularly produce and perform plays with local talent. Also, add the Oconee Performing Arts Society (OPAS) that brings a variety of high-quality performing arts experiences to the area. Additionally, venues such as the Greensboro Festival Hall and The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton, Ga. offer music and other performance opportunities to enjoy.
The outdoor motorsports fan can take a ride on the wild side at Georgia Off-Road Adventures. Located on 6000 acres north of Union Point in Greene County, Georgia Off-Road Adventures offers motorsports activities with over 100 miles of one-way dirt bike, ATV, and SXS trail riding and two 4x4 trail riding parks for all types of off-road vehicles.
For the active sports enthusiast, the Firefly Biking Trail will offer plenty of distance to pedal to your hearts desire. The Firefly Trail is a planned 39-mile rail-trail from Athens to Union Point in Greene County, connecting Athens-Clarke, Oglethorpe, and Greene Counties. Portions of the Firefly Trail in Athens-Clarke County are already open and Firefly Trail, Inc. is working with local communities to build three "Model Mile" sections of our trail in Athens-Clarke County, Maxeys, and Union Point in Greene County.
